C&K Trucking Continues West Coast Expansion with New Seattle Terminal

Posted February 7, 2024

C&K Trucking has added to its recent expansion on the West Coast with the opening of a new terminal in Seattle, Washington. The new Seattle C&K location sits at 4901 Airport Way South, within three miles of all Seattle terminals and ports. The location also serves the Tacoma area.

C&K Trucking Seattle terminal is adjacent to the Union Pacific and Burlington Northern rail ramps, facilitating efficient drayage service via nearby I-5 and I-405. While I-5 will help move shipments south, Washington’s Stevens and Snoqualmie mountain passes will enable deliveries to eastern points like Idaho, Montana, Utah, and North Dakota.

At the helm of the new location is Chris Grundy, Terminal Manager. Chris got his unexpected start in logistics as a security guard at Seattle Bulk Shipping (SBS). His experience piqued his interest in logistics and he went on to serve in many capacities, working his way up to logistics manager. Most recently, Chris was with Ray-Mont Logistics, which acquired SBS, for nearly a decade as a logistics manager, and then acting terminal manager. However, his entrepreneurial side was in search of a new challenge. The offer to build a terminal from the ground up was irresistible.

“I gave myself a deadline to find something of “my own,” or else I would open a warehouse myself,” he said. “Now I’m looking forward to building up our Seattle location and hope to have 30-50 drivers in the next five years.”

Comfortable in all areas of logistics and especially transloading, Chris hopes to grow the terminal’s service offerings beyond drayage. For example, the terminal boasts 2.5 acres of fenced, secure storage area with opportunities for stacking chassis and containers. The terminal has 14 dock doors that can facilitate easy cross-docking, a service Chris would like to develop at the location. Tanker, hazmat, and overweight freight services should be available soon.

The terminal is currently staffed with Chris, a dispatcher, and five contracted drivers, but the team is expected to grow considerably. Chris’ managerial style is to lead by example and with humility.

“It’s important to show that you’re human and nurture a family-like workplace. It’s also important to set your employees up for success, which is something C&K Trucking is doing very well for me,” he said.
